Commission taking
comments, conducting workshop in water case
A Boise water company that serves
about 46 households is seeking a rate increase from the Idaho Public Utilities
Commission.
Brian Water Corporation serves
homes in the Warm Springs area of eastern Boise. It seeks to increase its base
rate from $12.50 per month to $18 for the first 4,000 gallons per month. The
company’s last request for a rate increase was in 2007.
Brian Water states that its
nitrate levels exceed the Environmental Protection Agency’s maximum
contamination levels. In response, Brian Water is considering a new, deeper
well. The company also states that an increase in base rates would put the
company’s rates more in line with other water systems.
Commission staff is taking
written comment on the application through June 30 and the company will file
reply comments by July 8. Commission staff will also conduct a public workshop
for customers and other interested parties on Thursday, June 23, at 7 p.m. in
the commission hearing room at 472 W. Washington St. in Boise. The purpose of the
workshop is to provide customers with an overview of the company’s application
and answer questions. Company representatives may also be available.
